Midterm Exam in Arts

1. In my own point of view, art is sincerity.

As sincerity pertains to virtue of one who speaks and acts truly about his or her own feelings, thoughts, and desires. Any true work of art expresses its original thoughts and feelings. Before an artist created an art, he or she will think first what will be the purpose of his art. Most especially in religious perception and history. An artist must be sincere in creating religious art and history because it may criticize by other people.

Paintings of Juan Luna:

I was shocked, amazed and felt emotional feelings in spolarium. When you see it, you won't feel any regrets and you will feel that it is eligible to win the gold medal.

Portrait of a Lady

This portrait explained to me a woman that have to choose between spiritual and an independent woman doing what ever she wants.

La BulaqueƱa

This portrait makes me realize the Filipino woman in past time. Their characteristics, the way they dressed. Also the big contributions of environment in this modern age that gives comparison and contrast to change the Filipino women.

Paintings of Vicente Manansala:

Planting of the First Cross

This paint makes me realize that even the person in highest position in an old age has faith.

The Burial

This paint makes me scared. Its color and textures reflects a deep sadness during burial.

Patuloy ang Buhay

This paint inspires not only me, but other people that life must go on even we experienced difficulties and trials.

Sculptures of Napoleon Abueva:

Mother and Child

This sculpture makes the relationship between a mother and her child. The purest love given by a mother to her children.

Kagampanan

This sculpture explains to me that a woman has a responsibilities and one of these is  to be a mother of her children.

I laughed after I saw this sculpture. But after looking, I realize that most arts done by Napoleon Abueva have their literal meaning.
